Lafayette's Writing Desk

This writing desk was believed to be used by Lafayette during his Farewell Tour of the U.S. (1824-1825). In December 1824 and August 1825. Lafayette visited Woodlawn. This desk is foldable, allowing it to be placed in a carriage and likely moved locations with Lafayette across the country. The desk was given by Nancy Halsted, vice regent for New Jersey, to the Mount Vernon Ladies Association in 1876 before being donated to Woodlawn.
