Sarah & Rachel Mason's Gold Rings

This pair of gold rings belonged to Rachel Mason and her granddaugther, Sallie Mason. You can see the engraved monogram "S.E.M" for Sallie Elizabeth Mason on the larger of the rings. Rachel and her husband John Mason purchased Woodlawn in 1850 and raised their family there until their deaths in 1888-1889. Sallie was the daughter of their second son, Otis Tufton Mason, who would outlive Sallie by nearly four years.
